New Agreement Adds ILUMA, Extends GE’s Broad 3-D Imaging Portfolio
GE to Become Exclusive Distributor of Cone-Beam CT Scanner
Ear, Nose & Throat professionals can now obtain state-of-the-art Cone Beam CT (computed tomography) technology from GE Healthcare. Through an exclusive distribution agreement with IMTEC Corporation, GE is now the sole distributor of the ILUMA Cone Beam CT Scanner to medical professionals in the United States. The ILUMA Scanner provides radiographic imaging for sinus, skull base, head and neck and temporal bone assessment.
High Quality Image Resolution, Small Size
The ILUMA delivers high quality medical CT image resolution with 14-bit images as thin as 0.09mm voxel size. Voxel size is the standard measure of 3-D image resolution.
The attractive, compact ILUMA Scanner is the lightest in-office CT scanner
on the market at 770 pounds. Additionally, the scanner has a small footprint
which may be important to medical professionals where space is frequently
a key consideration.
Easy-to-use, Powerful Software Tools
The ILUMA 3-D Vision Software was designed for ease-of-use but also provides a comprehensive set of 3-D tools needed by medical professionals. Among its available 3-D tools:
- • Ability to automatically generate panoramic images potentially saving time.
- • Volume rendering with image presets that may enhance workflow.
- • Measurement tools for 3-D and 2-D images.
- • Surface rendering of skin and soft tissue.
ILUMA integrates with GE’s InstaTrak surgical navigation system to further streamline workflow.
“We are excited to be part of this strategic venture,” said Tim Thompson,
President & CEO of IMTEC Corporation. “There is an increasing demand
from the medical community to obtain and utilize 3-D images within
doctors’ own practices. Adding the ILUMA Scanner to their portfolio of
imaging solutions may help or potentially enable GE’s customers to realize
the power of using 3-D in diagnosis and planning.”
IMTEC CORPORATION: 10 Years of CT Experience
The ILUMA Scanner combines 10 years of industrial CT experience gained from high-technology industries, such as defense and aerospace, with expertise in implant and surgical guides. The scanner includes proprietary FlashCT® acquisition and reconstruction software that minimizes patient motion and metal artifacts and reconstructs images across multiple processors. Automated motion reduction is critical to providing ultra-high quality 3-D images for medical applications. The FlashCT® technology proved its worthiness, winning the prestigious R&D 100 Award in 2003.
